Headshot of artist Jordan Worley

Jordan Worley - World War 3 Illustrated

Comic book artist

World War 3 Illustrated is an annual comic book and graphics magazine. Founded in 1979, by Seth Tobocman and Peter Kuper, World War 3 Illustrated was among the first American magazines to treat comics as a medium for serious social commentary and journalism. WW3 isn't about a war that might happen. It's about wars ongoing—wars across the globe and in our own neighborhood, the wars we wage against each other and with ourselves.

For over 40 years, the magazine has been a labor of love, run by a volunteer collective of political activists and artists, both first-timers and established professionals. We're based in New York City and provide a home for comics from around the world.

Over the years, our editorial board has included...
Hilary Allison, Paula Hewitt Amram, Isabella Bannerman, Christopher Cardinale, Scott Cunningham, Eric Drooker, Ethan Heitner, Ryan Inzana, Sandy Jimenez, Sabrina Jones, Rebecca Migdal, Kevin Pyle, Nicole Schulman, Chuck Sperry, Susan Wilmarth, Jordan Worley and many others.

Justin Melkmann

Comic book artist

Justin Melkmann has been creating and self-publishing his comics since 2004.  For the most part his books are humor driven, autobiographical tales of the author’s dogged dedication to playing punk rock in New York City since the late 1990s. Melkmann’s triumphant highs are consistently undercut by hilariously self-deprecating, soul crushing lows.  The laughs keep rolling, like an empty beer bottle clanking around on a desolate 3:00a.m. subway ride home from a gig.

Bowen and Dixon's goal is to provide their audience with an escape from reality, while still creating a world that feels familiar and relatable.

Growing up around other creatives helped further my pursuit of art. Many of my friendships were with musicians during my adolescence and most of my adult life. They inspired me to become more introspective and I expanded my interests elsewhere. Comedy then became another theme in my life. I especially liked the tragicomedy genre and kept that mindset with my artwork, as well as my personal life.
